MemberWe visited the James Monro with our two young nephews over Easter. This lovely old building has been given a great new lease of life, with its subtle décor and lighting.
We started the meal with clam/prawn fritters (very tasty) and clam chowder, which was nice but not what I expect clam chowder to look and taste like. For the mains it was Bronx burgers served with hand cut chips and the Hampshire Lamb (small lamb steaks with potatoes) all very tasty, and we finished it all off with vanilla ice cream.
All in all the food was good but not spectacular and we found the menu quite limited for the kids, even though we checked prior to our visit that kids where welcome. The total bill for the evening including soft drinks and a bottle of wine was £83.10 plus a tip. Would we go again? Yes but there’s other places we want to try first.

MemberHave been to TSO’s a couple of times first time was in 2001 a big group of us went for the start of my hen party, the food was good and the place nice. However I have been recently and although the food is still very good “all you can eat buffet” and I mean all you can eat incl crispy duck and king prawn dishes, the place is starting to looking a little worn.
They do pack you in there as well we ended up with a table for 4 right next to the walk way of the buffet so had people jostling past but at £9.50 a head it was great value for money. I would go again but would ask for a table away from the buffet.
